A small range of dulcimers that are part of Andrew’s collection. Dulcimers (or mountain dulcimer or Appalachian dulcimer among other terms to distinguish them from the unrelated hammered dulcimer) were developed in the Appalachian Mountains in America with a heritage that probably includes various similar European instruments. Dulcimers typically have three courses of strings with either 3 or 4 strings with one course having a pair of strings on the 4 string variety. They are usually diatonic with sometimes 1-3 extra frets.
